Improve Farm Resilience and Profit with Trees

Plant and Manage With Confidence
We make it easy to design, develop, and manage agroforestry. Practices like alley cropping, silvopasture, windbreaks, and riparian buffers help farms become more resilient and earn great returns.

Practices We Support
Agroforestry is the integration of fruit, nut and timber trees with animal or crop farming systems. We work with tree species that have attractive supply-demand dynamics and strong growth prospects.

How We Work
We provide the technical and educational assistance needed for a successful conversion.
Farm Planning
Choose your crops, design your fields and automatically see the results on costs, revenues, labor assumptions, yield projections, and more.
Planting & Management
Great farms require great people, resources, and services to succeed. We help plant high-quality tree crops by connecting you to our genetic stock, equipment, and labor partners.
Financing Programs
We work with private and public funders to increase access to capital on your terms. Qualifying farms can cover up to 100% of the cost to plant and manage tree crops.

Featured Tree Crops
We work with tree species that have strong financial returns and suitability for your land. Our team has navigated the nursery supply chain to reduce costs and secure stock. We help ensure that you’ll get high-quality trees and shrubs on-time.
We also work with a variety of other trees and shrubs, see a full catalog here.

Creating the Largest Chestnut Operation in the U.S.A.
In 2021, Keavin Hill, owner of Hill Farms in central Ohio, recognized an opportunity to meet the growing and underserved demand for domestically-produced chestnuts. With Propagate’s support, he converted 1,850 acres of his farmland from corn, soy, and wheat to chestnut & hay production.
Current Service Areas
We work with technical service providers to support the implementation of agroforestry across the United States. The map below illustrates our three primary services: Farm planning, tree planting, and farm management.
We can work outside of the areas detailed below, depending on project type and size.

Learn More About Agroforestry
Now Accepting Applications for The Expanding Agroforestry Project
Eligible producers in the United States are invited to apply to an incentive payment program from the USDA. Over the course of five years, $36 million will be paid out to producers in direct incentive payments to transform 30,000 acres spanning 30 states into agroforestry systems, thus building a foundation for expanding agroforestry practices nationally.
Chestnuts & Agroforestry: Massive Opportunity for American Farmers
Producing chestnuts in the United States represents a significant opportunity for farmers to meet a growing and underserved demand. In 2022, the U.S. imported roughly 6.7 million pounds valued at $9.8 million. That demand could easily be satisfied with domestic production, bringing substantial profits to farmers.
Silvopasture Creates Profitable and Resilient Food Systems
Livestock producers face increasing threats to farm viability from thin profit margins to extreme weather to shifting consumer demand. Silvopasture, a form of agroforestry, is one tool in our regenerative toolkit that provides a host of benefits to producers, consumers and the planet simultaneously.
