Farm Planning for Agroforestry - 2025
We're hosting an in-person course, Farm Planning for Agroforestry, with Darren J. Doherty of Regrarians in Ithaca, NY.
This course is intended for those who own or manage land and produce crops or run livestock commercially. We'll design wholistic farm plans for your unique context, and dig into the detailed strategies & tactics to make them a reality.
Northern Nut Growers + Chestnut Growers of America Annual Conference
2025 Joint Conference of the Northern Nut Growers Association and the Chestnut Growers of America
The annual conferences of the Northern Nut Growers Association (NNGA) and Chestnut Growers of America (CGA) will be held jointly August 3-6, 2025 at the Nash Nurseries (4975 W Grand River Rd, 48867) in Owosso and the DoubleTree by Hilton (111 N. Grand Ave, 48933) in Lansing, Michigan. The conference will include a show and tell session, two all-day technical sessions, and field tours to multiple sites along with a welcome dinner, auction, and social/banquet.
The conference is open to everyone with an interest in trees and shrubs managed for their nuts or native woody fruits. Attendees will include a diverse mix of commercial growers, researchers, and hobbyists. Expect to hear a lot about growing and processing chestnuts; however, the planning committee has energetically sought speakers for the other nut tree species. The program already includes presenters talking on some aspect of hazelnuts, hickory, and pawpaw. The list will grow as we get nearer the conference.
Pasa Sustainable Agriculture Conference
Incorporating trees to support existing operations creates new sources of income and can improve farmland ecosystems. Farms are generating income from fruit, nuts and timber while building soil health and providing valuable benefits to grazing animals, pollinators, and surrounding watersheds. These practices require holistic planning and management changes. Therefore, it can be challenging to realize the benefits without training. It can also be difficult to navigate cost-sharing programs that align with your goals.
